Cryosphere Day at COP-19

Day of the Cryosphere at COP-19

A full-day event devoted to regions of snow and ice on the Earth — the cryosphere — and their importance to the global climate system, the changes they are exhibiting and implications for ecosystems and human communities.

Sunday, November 17 – 8:30 (coffee) – 18:00 CET
Raddison Blu Centrum Hotel, Gryzbowska 24, Warsaw

Climate change is having a disproportionate impact on the cryosphere — regions of ice and snow — with serious implications for human development and environments across the globe. Cryosphere Day, taking place on the mid-session Sunday of COP-19 (the Convention of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) will consist of a full-day seminar focused on the changes in cryosphere regions around the world. The purpose is to bring the rate of these changes to the attention of climate negotiators through dialogue with the research community and other stakeholders.

ICCI is organizing this event in cooperation with a broad range of cryosphere-focused groups (see current list below). The location is also about a 20-minute walk from the Landscapes Forum taking place at the University of Warsaw November 16-17, for those interested in attending both events. The entire day will also be live-streamed on this website for a global audience.

Attendance is free, with lunch and coffee included; but registration is needed as space is limited.  Organizations are also welcome to exhibit cryosphere-related materials in an exhibit area outside the main meeting room, again at no charge (to reserve a table, please contact Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam.
