First MILAGRO-Mex Meeting: The first meeting was held on January 12, 2009, hosted by Carlos Gay at UNAM-CCA and attended by about 30 participants. The topic of the first meeting was the evaluation of data generated from the MILAGRO Campaign and publication preparation. Each group that participated in the 2006 MILAGRO Campaign was invited to present and discuss the progress made on data evaluation and modeling during this past year, to contribute to the Overview article on MILAGRO, and to discuss their current activities and future plans. In addition, the participants discussed planning for an international MILAGRO scientific meeting, explored joint proposals to US, Mexico and other funding agencies for support; capacity building (training workshops, students exchange, etc.). Dara Salcedo is coordinating a field study in Cuernavaca and Gerardo Ruiz will be working next in Puebla. Luisa Molina also brought up a new initiative to establish an international consortium of megacities (Megacity Integrated Climate and Air Quality Sustainability Assessment (MICASA)), to share air quality management infrastructure and sustainable technology with the goal of establishing common standards for emissions inventories, pollutant monitoring, air quality modeling, stakeholder engagement, regulatory impact assessment, and control strategy development.
